To Darrell and friends-
Greeting from central Mexico...I really appreciate you all taking the time
to write me here...sorry I haven't returned the message sooner, but I hope
you still enjoy it and you are able to use this in your November missions
project..
Emery Flynn- thanks for your message! Yeah, I am doing well, I really enjoy
it here...some of the cultural differences definitely take some getting used
to, but I really do enjoy it...I have had my share of culture shock, it
hasn't been easy learning the language, but I am now after 4 months beginning
to really understand when people speak to me in Spanish...As far as foods, we
eat a lot of tortillas here, both flour and corn with meals, a lot of meat from
beef to pork to this disgusting stuff called "chicharron", which is
basically
pig fat! Yuk! I don't recommend it...=-) I hope this helps you get a
better feel for what we do here...thanks again...
Scott
Micheal- what do I miss about home? I miss my friends a lot of times, the
beauty of southern Indiana, sometimes my church, and every now and then a
more modern convenience, but I honestly have everything I need here, I am
well taken care of!! God is good...you don't have to go to a third world
country and live in a shack to be in missions...thanks for writing..
Scott
Kendell- well, What do I like most about Mexico? I like the people...they
are more relational in some ways than we from the states....I also love the
beauty...we just spent 3 days in the mountains on a team camping trip and it
rocked!! We have mountains all over the place around here...for fun, I love
to hang out with my teammates, go and visit my Mexican family and friends, or
travel..., and sometimes play basketball, when I can, like this
morning...Mexicans by far love soccer the most, but basketball is their
second favorite sport, which happens to be my first...I have really enjoyed
playing soccer with kids here...thanks for writing...
Scott
Matt- What's the best thing about being here? It's a lot slower paced than
in the states, which is nice...but I think the best thing about being here is
that I am privileged to help Mexican children learn more about Jesus...and
just being with the people and my team is really fun....thanks, and yes, I am
having a good time!
Scott
Chad- How does it feel to be in another country? Definitely
different....it's so different because you are so used to being able to walk
down the street and talk to someone in English, I mean, you don't even think
about them being able to understand them...not so here...I have to learn to
be a really intentional listener...also, it's just different food and culture
than what I am used to in the states...but it's good...I like the food for
the most part, I am still getting used to "chile", which are the peppers
that
Mexico is so famous for...they eat it in just about everything, and man, it's
hot...I had my first bite of one of the hottest chile peppers a few weeks
ago, and I was shedding tears, and drinking Coke and water like no tomorrow!
Thanks for writing...
Scott
Andrew- How does it feel to be in another country? Hard at times, but
good...I really enjoy it...it is actually a really cool change of pace for
me...I enjoy learning more about the Mexican culture and history...thanks for
asking...
Scott
Steven- Well, I am doing fine thanks...for me it hasn't been that scary to be
far away from home, but it has taken some getting used to...I have been
blessed with great brothers and sisters in Christ here, all around my age,
they are great friends...so that has made it a lot easier...What kind of games
do I play? Good question! I play a lot of card and board games with the
kids, which I enjoy, and I play a lot of soccer and basketball since those are
the two most popular sports here...I also get to play fun games with my team,
like ultimate Frisbee and baseball!!
Thanks for writing!
Scott
Darrell and friends- I am sure you will find out, but I am coming home in
early December, and would love to talk to you more about what I do here
face-to-face...I am looking forward to meeting you!!! Take care, and I hope
the missions project goes well....I grew up in a Baptist church that
supported a number of missionaries, and it was a privilege to hear how they
were doing when they came home....I actually was almost dead set against
missions when I was a kid, but God has his way of changing hearts, and now I
am so glad I am here...I really can't imagine being somewhere else right
now! Thanks again,
with love from the Savior-
